Vermilion Parish, LA Food Trucks & Mobile Vendors: Food Truck Permits (2026)

Article VI of Chapter 10 of the Vermilion Parish Code governs mobile food units. Sec. 10-148 defines a food truck as a mobile wheeled vehicle from which food is sold that typically contains cooking facilities where the food is prepared, and a mobile vendor as a person who holds a valid Police Jury permit to operate one within the parish. Sec. 10-149 then bars anyone from operating a food truck in the parish without first applying for and receiving that permit.

The permit is annual and expires on December 31 of each year. The applicant submits an initial permit fee of $50.00, and on issuance an additional $200.00 fee is required. Fees for permits issued after July 31 of each year can be prorated. Permits are non-transferrable, so a sold truck does not carry its permit to the buyer.

Sec. 10-150 makes licensing a condition of issuance: no permit is issued unless the applicant is licensed by the state board of health, the state department of health and hospitals, the state department of revenue, local tax agencies, and any other regulating agency, and provides proof to the Police Jury. Sec. 10-159 requires general liability insurance of not less than $2,000,000.00 per occurrence, with evidence supplied to the Police Jury on request. Sec. 10-158 requires the permittee to indemnify and hold the Police Jury, its officers, officials, employees and assigns harmless from any losses, claims or suits tied to the permit.

The article adds operating conditions that go with the permit. Sec. 10-155 sets hours of 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 midnight. Sec. 10-156 requires the driver to hold a valid state driver's license. Sec. 10-157 limits the truck to no more than 26 feet in length and eight feet in width. Sec. 10-153 bars obstructing traffic and/or parking and operating on public roads or road rights-of-way, and Sec. 10-154 forbids leaving the truck or its equipment or supplies unattended.
