Vermilion Parish, LA Food Trucks & Mobile Vendors: Sidewalk & Mobile Vending (2026)

Article VI of Chapter 10 of the Vermilion Parish Code is the parish's only mobile food vending article, and Sec. 10-153 is its street-side rule: a permittee shall not obstruct traffic and/or parking on public or private property, and may not operate on public roads, or road rights-of-way. Sec. 10-148 defines public right-of-way as any public street, alley, road, sidewalk, neutral ground, or other passageway whereby pedestrians or vehicles traverse. The Code does not print a separate sidewalk-vending permit, so a vendor working a sidewalk in unincorporated Vermilion Parish is measured against the food truck article and the itinerant vendor article.

Sec. 10-148 defines a food truck as a mobile wheeled vehicle from which food is sold that typically contains cooking facilities where the food is prepared, and a mobile vendor as a person who has obtained a valid Police Jury permit to operate one. Sec. 10-149 requires that permit: no person can operate a food truck in the parish without first applying for and receiving it. The permit is annual, expires on December 31, costs $50.00 to apply and an additional $200.00 on issuance, and is non-transferrable.

Other operating limits sit beside Sec. 10-153. Under Sec. 10-154 a permittee shall not leave a food truck, vehicle, or any of its equipment or supplies unattended. Sec. 10-152 bars interference with the business of offices and agencies in parish buildings, or with any person needing access to parish properties. Sec. 10-155 sets hours of 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 midnight, and Sec. 10-157 limits a food truck to no more than 26 feet in length and eight feet in width. Sec. 10-156 requires a valid state driver's license for the operator.

A vendor who sells food on foot or from a stand rather than a vehicle, and who works door to door or from a lot, falls under Article IV instead: Sec. 10-78 requires a Police Jury permit and Sec. 10-82 limits sales to 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
