Vermilion Parish, LA Food Trucks & Mobile Vendors: Vending Zones (2026)

Sec. 10-151 of the Vermilion Parish Code governs where a permitted food truck can set up on public land. Permission to access parish property for the operation of a food truck, if granted, is issued on a strictly non-exclusive basis, and the Police Jury reserves the right to issue permits to the operators of other food trucks or for any other lawful use of the parish properties, parking lots and/or premises. A permit holder therefore has no reserved spot, no territory and no protection from a competing truck parked beside it.

Article VI prints no map, list or table of named vending zones. Location is controlled by a chain of restrictions instead. Sec. 10-153 bars operating on public roads, or road rights-of-way, and bars obstructing traffic and/or parking on public or private property. Sec. 10-152 says a permittee shall not interfere with the business of any of the offices or agencies that occupy buildings and premises, or any person needing to have access to parish properties. Sec. 10-155 lets a food truck operate between 6:00 a.m. and 12:00 midnight, and bars operating on parish property before or after normal business hours. Sec. 10-154 forbids leaving the truck, vehicle, equipment or supplies unattended.

The truck itself is sized to fit these locations: Sec. 10-157 caps it at 26 feet in length and eight feet in width. Before any of this applies, Sec. 10-149 requires an annual Police Jury permit that expires on December 31, with a $50.00 initial permit fee and an additional $200.00 fee on issuance, and Sec. 10-150 requires proof of licensing from the state board of health, the state department of health and hospitals, the state department of revenue, and local tax agencies.

The parish code is silent on private lots in this article beyond the obstruction bar in Sec. 10-153, so a truck working from private property still carries the parish permit and follows the same hour and unattended-equipment rules. Sec. 10-159 requires general liability insurance of not less than $2,000,000.00 per occurrence.
