Bensalem, PA Food Trucks & Mobile Vendors: Sidewalk & Mobile Vending (2026)

Township Code § 173-4(b)(2)(d) governs pedestrian access: if a mobile food service vehicle operates on or adjacent to a sidewalk, its signage, seating areas and patron queue may not reduce the clear pedestrian path of travel on the sidewalk to less than six feet, and all awnings or canopies must clear the sidewalk by at least six feet, eight inches. This sits within the broader operating rules of § 173-4(b), which also require, when a vehicle operates in the right-of-way, that it park facing the same direction as traffic no more than 18 inches from the curb face with its service window toward the curb, provide no seating except during a permitted street closure, and never block another business's access, signage or emergency-vehicle access.

Section 173-4(b)(2)(e) further requires at least ten feet of separation between mobile food service vehicles operating in the right-of-way and bars operating within 100 feet of a brick-and-mortar eating establishment. Section 173-4(h) caps a single permitted sandwich board sign at eight square feet per side and 48 inches in height, placed no more than two feet beyond the vehicle, and bars it from obstructing pedestrian or vehicular traffic. Section 173-5(1) separately prohibits any mobile food vendor, at all times, from operating in any area where it will impede pedestrian traffic.
