Lyon County, NV Food Trucks & Mobile Vendors: Sidewalk & Mobile Vending (2026)

Lyon County's Land Use and Development Code regulates mobile food operations as a distinct use type, "Restaurants, Mobile - Food Trucks, Outdoor Vendors And Carts," under section 15.335.03(QQ). The rule is absolute on sidewalks: item 1 states the use "may not be located on a public sidewalk," and item 2 adds that a truck or cart must not impede vehicular or pedestrian traffic, parking lot circulation, or access to any public right-of-way. Vendors are pushed onto private property instead, and item 8 requires written permission from the property owner before setting up.

Standard hours run 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.; the Community Development Director may allow extended hours only through a temporary use permit. Operators must keep the site attended at all times, pick up all litter and provide their own trash container, prominently display every license and permit on the truck or cart, and mount all signage directly to the vehicle rather than staking it in the ground. Before opening, the vendor must secure a business license from the Lyon County Clerk's Office; the zoning standard sits alongside, not in place of, that licensing step.

Because Fernley and Yerington are incorporated cities with their own codes, this county provision governs only unincorporated areas such as Dayton, Silver Springs, Stagecoach, Mound House and the Smith and Mason Valleys.
