Springfield, IL Food Trucks & Mobile Vendors: Sidewalk & Mobile Vending (2026)

Sec. 01's general conditions apply to every temporary and mobile food service vendor operating on a city right-of-way, other city property, or private property, plus Old State Capitol Mall and farmers market vendors. Carts and stands must conform to design specifications set by the director of public works and cannot exceed ten feet in length, ten feet in width, or 11 feet in height (item 2). unless the public works director grants extended hours for a special occasion (item 5). Vendors are flatly barred from parking a vehicle on the curb, parkway, or sidewalk at any time; the only exception is for a vendor holding a specific public works permit to drive there briefly while loading or unloading, or attaching or detaching a cart from the vehicle (item 15).

Even then, no vendor may assemble, disassemble, pack, unpack, or sell items while the vehicle sits on the curb, parkway, or sidewalk (item 16). Additional sidewalk-level rules bar extension cords across pedestrian walkways (item 14), require waste receptacles on the cart and pickup of trash within 25 feet of the assigned spot (items 6-7), and prohibit any advertising beyond posted prices and the vendor's own name or product (item 9).
