Under Section 5.50.170, a mobile vending vehicle (other than an ice cream truck) cannot stop, park or stand within 300 feet of a public school, park, playground or recreational facility, within 300 feet of another vending vehicle already operating, or within 100 feet of any intersection, including public alleys. Vending is also prohibited on any street or alley posted above 35 mph, in a no-parking zone under Section 10.40.050, on a parkway, alley or sidewalk, or on any other public property.
A vendor must sell only from the side of the vehicle nearest the curb, park on the right side of the road, and cannot let customers stand in traffic lanes or in another vehicle while buying. Re-stocking on a public street or alley is banned outright, and no vending vehicle may hook up to private or public utilities. Vending on private property is prohibited except for serving employees at a job site, such as a construction site, for 30 minutes or less. Before any of this matters, Section 5.50.030 requires a valid vendor's or operator's permit from the Director (or designee), on top of any other city license, and Section 5.50.130 caps operating hours at 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with no overnight parking on public streets.
