Hutto, TX Food Trucks & Mobile Vendors: Vending Zones (2026)

Section 8.04.105 lists the places itinerant vendors, including mobile food vendors, cannot operate: within 1,000 feet of a hospital, college, elementary school, middle school or high school; inside the historic overlay district without minor-modification approval from the Planning and Zoning Commission; in a manner that obstructs pedestrian or vehicle traffic or traffic signals; or in a way that blocks access for emergency or sanitation vehicles. For the historic overlay district specifically, the area inside the 1911 incorporated boundaries of the city including the city co-op property, § 8.04.108 channels vendors operating from a motor vehicle or trailer to properties directly abutting the east side of Short Street, north of Farley Street and South of West Pecan Street; locating anywhere else in Old Town Hutto requires the same Planning and Zoning minor-modification approval.

That section also requires vehicles in the designated vendor zone to be designed and intended for vending, so ordinary vans and pickup trucks cannot be used for food-vending operations there, and the International Property Maintenance Code and all other applicable city, county, state and federal codes still apply to structures in the zone. The rules do not apply to vendors operating under a special event or small market event permit.
