Hutto, TX Parking Rules: Overnight Parking (2026)

Hutto Code of Ordinances § 22.04.010(a) bars the owner or operator of a tractor-trailer, semi-truck, semitrailer, or other vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating of 12,000 pounds or more from using outdoor storage or overnight outdoor parking in any commercial district, highway right-of-way, or on undeveloped property, once written notice has been given. The same subsection extends to construction equipment of that weight class, which may not sit on residential, commercial, or undeveloped land except during the period of permitted construction, while loading or unloading at a commercial business, on the property of a business that operates such vehicles, or at a location the zoning ordinance separately permits.

Subsection (b) defines "undeveloped property" as land within the city limits, regardless of zoning, for which no certificate of occupancy has been issued, and defines "written notice" as an official police warning left in a conspicuous place for the owner or operator, logged into the police department's record management system. Because the restriction becomes enforceable only "after written notice," a first-time violator typically gets a documented warning before a citation follows for a repeat violation. The Hutto Police Department administers both the notice and any resulting citation; a violation is a misdemeanor under § 22.04.003, fined per the general penalty in § 1.01.009, up to $500.00 absent a more specific amount, with each day of continued storage or overnight parking counted as its own offense.
