Hutto, TX Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

Hutto Code of Ordinances § 22.04.002 defines a "heavy truck" as any truck, truck tractor, or tractor-trailer combination with dual or single wheels or tandem rear axles and a gross vehicle weight of 12,000 pounds, a bright-line threshold that pulls in most work pickups pulling equipment trailers and full-size box trucks. Section 22.04.006(a) bans parking those trucks in any residential, historic, or mixed-use district, with a narrow carve-out for time spent actively loading, unloading, or performing maintenance service. Subsection (b) lists five categories of authorized vehicles that escape the ban: city- or utility-owned maintenance vehicles and trailers; authorized emergency vehicles identified under Texas Transportation Code section 541.201; school and commercial buses actually receiving or discharging passengers; and motor vehicles or trailers present at an active jobsite, so long as the jobsite vehicle is not blocking the roadway.

A fourth listed category is reserved and currently carries no exemption. The Hutto Police Department enforces the parking chapter, and a violation is a misdemeanor under § 22.04.003, fined per the code's general penalty in § 1.01.009, up to $500.00 absent a more specific amount, with each day the truck remains parked in violation charged as a separate offense. Because the ban applies district-wide rather than street-by-street, a contractor's crew truck left overnight in a subdivision driveway can be cited even without blocking traffic, unless it fits one of the five listed exemptions.
