Lee's Summit lets mobile food vending operate in all zoning districts on private property, on a paved surface with the owner's permission. UDO Sec. 6.1650 keeps trucks 60 feet from restaurant entrances and off residential streets except for brief single-unit stops.
Section 6.1650 of the Unified Development Ordinance sets where trucks may sell. Mobile food vending is permitted in all zoning districts on private property when the vendor has the owner's permission and parks on a paved surface. A vendor may not set up within a 60-foot radius of the primary entry of a brick-and-mortar restaurant during its posted hours without written permission. Vending from the right-of-way in residential areas is prohibited, except a single-unit food truck may stop for up to 15 minutes. Trucks must stay one-half mile from a festival requiring street closure unless the coordinator authorizes them. In the Central Business District, food trucks are limited to 9:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.
Vending outside an allowed location, too close to a restaurant, or in a residential right-of-way violates the UDO. The Director may revoke the permit and enforcement can order the truck to move, with appeal to the City Council.
