Taylorsville, UT Food Trucks & Mobile Vendors: Vending Zones (2026)

Taylorsville City Code Section 13.11.170 governs food trucks, catering trucks and street vendors as mobile businesses. The ordinance confines vending to property within commercial or industrial land use areas; operating from a vacant lot without a permanent licensed structure on-site triggers the same site improvements required for temporary uses. Every mobile business needs a business license from the City of Taylorsville that expires with required health or safety inspections or after one year, whichever comes first, plus property owner consent for each private location. Operating more than 10 hours a week at one private address requires a site plan covering parking, traffic circulation, pedestrian access, right-of-way use and restroom facilities.

Vending in the public right-of-way needs written City authorization (and UDOT authorization on a UDOT right-of-way) plus a special events permit, and vending adjacent to or inside a public park or an OS Zone is unlawful without that same special events permit. Placement is restricted: no closer than 10 feet to a fire hydrant, bus or transit stop, handicap parking space or access ramp, curb cut, or another mobile food business or street vendor, and no closer than 30 feet to an intersection or driveway.

Vendors must keep a 4-foot clear sidewalk path, carry general liability insurance of at least $200,000 per person and $500,000 per occurrence, and cannot operate as a drive-thru or vend more than 12 hours in any 24-hour period at one location absent Director approval. Hours run 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. unless extended for a special event.
