Hamden, CT Historic Preservation: Historic-Cultural Monuments (2026)

Section 154.65 states that the subchapter's purpose is to designate an historic property, create a History Property Commission and terminate the prior Historic Property Study Commission. Section 154.66 then establishes the Hamden Memorial Town Hall as the town's historic property and fixes its boundaries in Schedule A: 50 feet along Dixwell Avenue to the south, land of the Episcopal Church Society and the Town of Hamden to the east, 53 feet of land formerly belonging to John H. Rochford to the north, and land now or formerly of Amadio Mantovani to the west, with east and west lines of 215 feet each.

Section 154.67 creates a five-member Historic Properties Commission with three alternate members, all of whom must be town electors holding no salaried municipal office; the Mayor appoints and may remove members, regular terms run five years on a staggered schedule so one seat turns over each year, alternate terms run three years, and every member serves without compensation. Within 30 days of the first appointments the regular members elect a Chairperson and Vice Chairperson. Section 154.68 lets the Commission designate additional historic properties or enlarge this boundary under Conn.

Gen. Stat. § 7-147q, adopt its own procedural rules, and hire clerical or technical help. Section 154.69 terminated the prior Historic Study Committee as of September 27, 2002.
