Hamden, CT Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

Section 70.34(A) of the Hamden Code of Ordinances lists fourteen specific on-street parking violations enforceable except when a police officer or a traffic control sign or signal directs otherwise. Under item (4), no one may park in front of or so as to obstruct a private driveway or alleyway's ingress or egress without the driveway owner's permission, drawing on C.G.S. § 14-252. Item (7) bars leaving a vehicle parked, standing or stopped on or across a public sidewalk except to cross it to reach an adjacent area or perform necessary sidewalk construction, maintenance or snow removal, citing C.G.S. § 14-250a.

Item (14) requires vehicles to be parked facing the same direction as the flow of traffic, prohibiting parking against oncoming traffic on the wrong side of the street. Other subsections in the same list bar overtime parking beyond posted time limits, parking with wheels more than 12 inches from the curb, parking within 25 feet of a stop sign or corner under C.G.S. § 14-251, blocking a public building's entrance, double parking, and parking during a Mayor's declared special restriction. Enforcement runs through the Police Department, which may issue a citation, and a driver may request a formal hearing before a Parking Violations Hearing Officer within 15 days under § 70.37.

Under § 70.99(E), any violation of § 70.34 is fined not less than $25 nor more than $100, and an unpaid citation adds an equal penalty and can lead to an arrest warrant.
