Hamden, CT Fire Regulations: Fireworks (2026)

Section 93.01(A) prohibits the discharge, firing or use of firecrackers, rockets, torpedoes, Roman candles, fire balloons and other fireworks or pyrotechnic-display substances, and also pistols, canes, cannons or other appliances using blank cartridges or caps containing a chlorate-of-potash mixture, anywhere within the town. Subsection (B) creates the only escape valve: the mayor and the fire chief, acting together on a written application, may grant written permission for a fireworks display if, in their opinion, its character and location will not endanger property or people. Section 93.02 separately bans the retail sale of fireworks and the wholesale storage or sale of fireworks except as the chapter allows, while section 93.04 clarifies that this does not reach lawfully licensed firearms, ammunition or explosives, or a wholesale dealer who sells and delivers fireworks outside town limits in securely packed containers.

Section 93.06 declares any violation of sections 93.01 through 93.06 a misdemeanor and lets the fire chief remove, at the violator's expense, any stock of fireworks or combustibles held or displayed for sale in violation of the chapter. Section 93.99(A) sets the fine for violating sections 93.01, 93.02 or 93.06 at $100 for each day the violation continues, a daily-accrual penalty that can add up quickly for anyone storing or selling fireworks without the mayor and fire chief's written permission.
