El Cajon Municipal Code Sec. 050 defines a home occupation as "an occupation lawfully conducted within a dwelling by an inhabitant of such dwelling," and it must meet every requirement in subsections A through J unless excepted by subsection K. " Subsection G reinforces this, requiring that all contacts with customers or clients take place on-site only by mail, telephone, or electronic media such as computer or facsimile, or happen entirely off-site, meaning even permitted communication cannot occur through an in-person visit at the home.
