Plantation, FL Home Business: Customer Traffic Restrictions (2026)

Section 27-301 licenses home-based businesses operating out of a residential dwelling and ties every operating standard to that license. Two separate traffic-related limits apply: under subsection (a)(2), parking generated by the business may not be greater in volume than would normally be expected at a similar residence where no business is conducted, and under subsection (a)(12), traffic shall not be generated by the business in greater volume than would normally be expected in the neighborhood. Those caps work alongside the employee limit in subsection (a)(1), which allows only up to two employees or independent contractors who do not live at the dwelling to work on-site (remote employees who never visit the property are unaffected), which in practice controls how many vehicles a home business can draw to the block.

Commercial vehicles and trailers tied to the business face the same parking restrictions as any other commercial vehicle on residential property: no parking in the right-of-way, over a sidewalk, or on unpaved surfaces, and heavy equipment such as commercial, industrial, or agricultural machinery cannot be stored on-site at all. The City enforces these limits through the Local Business Tax Receipt required under Chapter 14: the City has the right to inspect the premises at reasonable times to check compliance and investigate complaints, and the Special Magistrate or City Council can cancel the tax receipt for a violation, after which no business activity may continue at the address, and the owner cannot obtain a new receipt for a residence where a prior receipt was canceled for a violation before its expiration.
