Plantation, FL Home Business: Signage Rules (2026)

Section 27-301(a)(11) flatly states that commercial signs of any type may not be posted or displayed on or at the residence of a home-based business, and this sits alongside the section's broader design standard requiring that, as viewed from the street, the property look consistent with the surrounding residential neighborhood and that any exterior modifications conform to the neighborhood's residential character and architecture. Subsection (a)(13) reinforces the sign ban with a companion rule: there shall not be any display of goods, machinery, or equipment, nor any performance of work visible or audible from any street or adjoining property, nor any sign or display identifying or providing information of any nature about the home-based business.

Together the two subsections mean a Plantation home business cannot use a yard sign, window sign, vehicle-mounted sign parked in view, or any other visible marketing at the residence, regardless of the business type or license classification. The prohibition applies even though the operator holds a valid Local Business Tax Receipt under Chapter 14; the receipt authorizes the business activity itself, not exterior advertising. Because the standard is tied to the same license, the City can enforce it the same way it enforces every other home-business standard in Section 27-301: by inspecting the property at reasonable times, investigating a neighbor's complaint about a visible sign, and referring a confirmed violation to the Special Magistrate or City Council for cancellation of the tax receipt, which halts the business entirely at that address.
