Bulloch County, GA Home Business: Signage Rules (2026)

The Zoning Ordinance (Appendix C) caps home-business signage in two parallel sections depending on how the business is classified. For a cottage industry, the larger home-based business category that can occupy an accessory structure up to 2,400 square feet, Section 1425(t) allows exactly one sign advertising the business, capped at two square feet, which must be nonmoving and, if illuminated at all, non-flashing. For the more limited 'home occupation, residential' category covering small service and professional businesses run from inside the house, Section 1426(k) allows one non-illuminated name plate, also capped at two square feet, that can identify only the name of the occupation being conducted on the premises; no other wording, logo space or illumination is permitted.

Both sections sit inside broader packages of home-business standards: Section 1425 additionally bars any outdoor display of merchandise and requires that all lights on the property be directed on-site and shielded from adjacent areas, while Section 1426(j) separately bars any display of products visible from the street. Read together, the two sections mean a home business owner in unincorporated Bulloch County, whichever category applies, gets one sign, no larger than two square feet, and no flashing or exterior product display to draw attention from the road. Planning and Development reviews sign compliance as part of the home occupation or cottage industry application before either use is registered.
