To preserve the residential character of neighborhoods, Elk Grove's Home Occupation regulations expressly prohibit any exterior evidence of the business, including signs, displays, window advertising, lighting, or commercial vehicle signage at the home. Vehicles used for the business cannot be parked at the residence in a way that advertises the business (e.g., a company-wrapped van parked visibly in the driveway overnight may be a violation). Signage for legitimate commercial uses is governed by the city's separate sign regulations in EGMC Chapter 23.96, which applies only to properly zoned commercial and mixed-use parcels. Online listings, business cards, and web advertising are unaffected. HOAs may add further restrictions on home-based commercial signage.
