Home Occupations in Mountain View may not display exterior business signage. The residence must retain its residential appearance from the street.
Under the Mountain View Zoning Code Home Occupation standards, no exterior signs, advertising displays, or business identification are allowed at the residence. The intent is that the business be invisible from the public right of way to preserve the residential character of the neighborhood. This includes window signs, door plaques, yard signs, banners, illuminated signs, and vehicle signage stored in driveways intended as display. Commercial vehicles used for the business must comply with Mountain View parking rules including residential parking permit limits and truck-size restrictions. Signage for legitimate real estate, contractor, or campaign purposes is governed by the sign ordinance separately. Violations can lead to loss of the Home Occupation Permit and code enforcement fines.
