Rocklin, CA Home Business: Signage Rules (2026)

Section 17.68.040(D) governs advertising and signage for every permitted home business. It flatly prohibits signs, on or off the premises, that identify the business or solicit customers, carving out only a single building-mounted, non-illuminated identification sign measuring two inches by ten inches or less. The same subsection separately bars displaying products or equipment used by the home business where they would be visible from outside the residence, closing off a common workaround of using a driveway or window display instead of a sign. The two-inch-by-ten-inch allowance lines up with the citywide sign code: Section 17.75.020(C), Table 1 lists 'Home occupation signs at the residence of currently permitted and licensed home occupation businesses' as exempt from a sign permit, capped at the identical two-inch-by-ten-inch maximum, and the sign table for building signs in single-family and R-2 zones under Section 17.75.050 likewise notes that no home business signs are allowed beyond that single 2-inch-by-10-inch sign.

Because the allowance is tied to a 'currently permitted and licensed' home occupation, losing the underlying Chapter 17.68 permit also forfeits the right to display even the small identification sign.
