Rowlett, TX Home Business: Signage Rules (2026)

" Unlike the commercial sign rules elsewhere in the Development Code that regulate size and placement, this provision does not permit any visible sign at all for a home business, no matter how small. It sits alongside two related exterior-appearance limits. Section 77-303(D)(1)(c)(1) requires the home occupation to "cause no change in the external appearance of the existing buildings and structures on the property," and § 77-303(D)(1)(c)(2) requires that any vehicle used for the business be sized and parked so that "a casual observer or a person of normal sensibilities will not be able to detect any sign of the premises being used as a home occupation," expressly limiting the property to no more than one commercial vehicle with signage, tool boxes or mounted ladders, and barring any vehicle over one ton.

Section 77-303(D)(1)(c)(6) extends the same no-visibility principle to goods: the property may contain "no outdoor display or storage of goods or services" tied to the business, and § 77-303(D)(1)(c)(7) bars wholesale or retail sales on the premises entirely. Together these provisions mean a Rowlett home occupation has to be functionally invisible from the street: no yard sign, no window sign, no lettered vehicle beyond the one allowed commercial vehicle, and no storefront-style display.
