AMC 21.05.070D.12 allows a home occupation in a dwelling unit or an accessory building in any residential district, but only as an accessory use subordinate to the residential use. Only a permanent resident of the unit plus one nonresident may work on-site. In class A improvement areas the space devoted to the business is capped at the lesser of 25% or 500 square feet of the principal dwelling (or 300 square feet of an accessory building, or a 250/250 split); class B areas get slightly larger caps. Business hours for employees, clients, or customers coming to the home run 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and there can be no exterior signs of the business, no unusual traffic, and no noise, odor, or vibration detectable at the property line.

Zoning enforcement can order the home occupation to shut down or scale back; operating outside the size, hours, or employee limits voids the accessory-use exemption and the activity is treated as an unpermitted commercial use.
