Conway, AR Landscaping Rules: Tree Trimming (2026)

Conway Municipal Code Section 5.16.01 regulates the business of tree trimming rather than trimming on your own property: anyone who cuts or trims trees belonging to another person as a means of employment, meaning for pay, must register with the Director of the Conway Sanitation Department and purchase a tree trimming permit costing twenty-five dollars. The registration and permit run for one year from the date issued, so a trimmer who works in Conway year after year has to renew annually rather than register once.

Section 5.16.02 layers on a reporting duty: before undertaking any trimming or cutting job in the city, the registered trimmer must advise the Sanitation Department of the job location one time in advance, and the trimmer, not the Sanitation Department, is responsible for hauling away limbs, branches and other debris from the site, unless the property owner specifically wants the debris left behind, in which case the trimmer must tell the owner that the city will not collect it. Two separate fines enforce the chapter under Section 5.16.03: trimming without registering and buying the permit first draws a ten-dollar fine on top of still having to register and pay the twenty-five-dollar fee, while failing to give the Sanitation Department the required advance notice of a job site draws twenty-five dollars for a first offense and fifty dollars for each later one.

The ordinance traces to Ordinance No. O-77-12 and sits in its own chapter, 5.16, separate from the anti-vandalism rule in Chapter 5.12 that protects trees generally.
