Bergenfield Chapter 306 authorizes the Borough Administrator to declare water emergencies imposing odd/even sprinkler schedules in Stage I and a complete irrigation ban in Stage II.
Chapter 306 limits, restricts, and regulates water use during declared emergencies. In a Stage I (Pending/Critical) emergency, lawn, shrub, and garden watering is restricted to a hand-held hose only, with odd-numbered addresses watering Tuesdays and Saturdays and even-numbered addresses watering Wednesdays and Sundays; no irrigation of any kind is allowed Mondays, Thursdays, or Fridays. In a Stage II (Critical) emergency, all outdoor irrigation is prohibited unless the Borough Administrator grants a hand-held hose exception. Newly sodded or seeded lawns within their first 21 days, and irrigation systems with smart controllers, may qualify for limited exceptions.
Violations of declared water-emergency restrictions are enforceable by the Borough Administrator and may result in fines under the general penalty provisions.
