Water restrictions in Dublin, CA — also called the watering schedule, outdoor irrigation rules, or drought ordinance — set which days and hours you can run sprinklers or irrigation.
Most Dublin water customers are served by the Dublin San Ramon Services District (DSRSD). DSRSD maintains permanent water-waste prohibitions: no hosing down hard surfaces, no washing vehicles without a shut-off nozzle, no irrigation that causes runoff, and no landscape irrigation within 48 hours after measurable rainfall.
The City of Dublin does not run its own retail water utility; potable water for most of Dublin is supplied by the Dublin San Ramon Services District (DSRSD), with wholesale supply from Zone 7 Water Agency. Under DSRSD's permanent water-use rules, customers may not waste water. Prohibited practices include washing sidewalks, driveways, buildings, and other hard surfaces with potable water; individually washing motor vehicles without a hose shut-off nozzle; applying potable irrigation water in a way that causes runoff onto pavement or gutters; and irrigating turf and ornamental landscape during and within 48 hours after measurable rainfall. DSRSD also recommends watering during cooler hours to limit evaporation. A Stage 2 Water Shortage Emergency declared October 5, 2021 was rescinded April 19, 2023, but the everyday water-waste prohibitions remain in force regardless of drought stage. Because rules can tighten when the District declares a higher shortage stage, customers should confirm the current stage with DSRSD. Statewide, California Civil Code Section 4735 also bars homeowners associations from fining owners who reduce or stop watering during a declared drought emergency. For account-specific rules, contact DSRSD at (925) 828-0515.
DSRSD enforces water-waste prohibitions against its customers; violations can lead to notices and penalties under District rules. During higher declared shortage stages, additional mandatory restrictions may apply.
