Medina, OH Landscaping Rules: Weed Ordinances (2026)

06 lists several conditions on private property declared public nuisances, including diseased or hazardous trees apt to fall, shrubs or hedgerows over three feet within twenty-two feet of a sidewalk intersection, and, at subsection (b), grass or weeds exceeding eight inches in height on any lot regardless of whether it is improved or unimproved. 07: the Service Director or a designee sends written notice by registered mail giving the owner ten days to abate, and if the notice is returned or refused, publishing it once in a newspaper of general circulation in the County satisfies notice for the entire calendar year.

If the owner does not comply, the City cuts the growth using its own employees or a private contractor; the bill adds a fifteen percent surcharge to City labor and equipment costs, or to a contractor's charge, to cover notice, inspection and supervision. An unpaid bill, mailed to the owner, is certified by the Clerk of Council to the Medina County Auditor for placement on the tax duplicate if not paid within thirty days. 99 separately allows a fine of up to $100 for the underlying violation, with each day of violation a separate offense.
