Full Breakdown
Wichita Municipal Code Sec. 8.01.130 makes it unlawful for a property owner to let uncultivated or unkept grass, weeds, vines, or other vegetation exceed 12 inches in height or length on their lot, or on the streets and alleys abutting it. If the Director of the Metropolitan Area Building and Construction Department confirms the violation after a notice of abatement under Sec. 8.01.060 goes unanswered, the city sends crews to cut it and assesses the cost against the property. The Director may also mail a single yearly notice covering the whole growing season instead of notifying per incident. A carve-out exists for planned sustainable landscapes that meet defined maintenance and setback standards.
Violations & Fines
First a written notice to abate (or an annual notice covering the season) giving time to cut the growth; ignore it and the city mows and assesses the cost against the property, plus possible municipal court prosecution.
