Beloit, WI Mobility & Curb Rules: Bike Lane Rules (2026)

08 of the Beloit Code of Ordinances, last amended by Ordinance #2882. Riders under 10 may not use a roadway built for motor vehicles unless no sidewalk exists, and riders under 12 may use sidewalks everywhere except the downtown business section. Outside those age exceptions, bicycles are barred from public sidewalks and park paths unless the City Council has designated the surface a 'bicycle way,' such as the marked stretch of sidewalk on the north side of Milwaukee Road (STH 15) between White Avenue and Lee Lane.

Bicycles must yield to pedestrians wherever a lane or way is designated. The single hard prohibition in the chapter closes Milwaukee Road (STH 15) between I-90 and White Avenue to bicycle traffic entirely, except for the signed lane between Lee Lane and White Avenue; riding that stretch outside the marked lane is an illegal roadway, not just a discouraged one. Public Works erects and maintains the signs, painted lines and curb separations that mark every lane and way. Bicycle dealers separately must log every sale and purchase, including buyer or seller name, address and the bicycle's serial number, for three years, and altering a bicycle's serial number is a standalone offense.
