Lyon County, NV Mobility & Curb Rules: Bike Lane Rules (2026)

Lyon County Code § 8.07.01 sets the operating rules for anyone riding a bicycle on a street, highway or alley in unincorporated Lyon County. Subsection B requires cyclists to ride as near the right-hand side of the roadway as practicable and to exercise due care passing a standing or moving vehicle. Subsection C bars bicycles from any County sidewalk outright, so riders must use the roadway even where no dedicated bike lane exists. Subsection D limits groups to no more than two bicycles riding abreast, and subsection E forbids clinging to a moving vehicle.

Subsection F confines parking to a bicycle rack, against a building, or at the curb, always positioned to leave the least obstruction to pedestrian traffic. Section 8.07.02 separately requires a white headlamp visible from three hundred feet (300') and a rear red reflector on any bicycle ridden after sundown and before sunrise. Under § 8.01.06, a person riding a bicycle on a roadway is subject to the same Title 8 duties that apply to the driver of a motor vehicle wherever those provisions can reasonably apply, which folds bicyclists into the County's broader traffic obedience and right-of-way rules.

Because Chapter 7 carries no dedicated penalty clause, a violation falls to the County's general penalty at § 1.04.01: absent a different penalty, it is a misdemeanor punishable under Nevada Revised Statutes, unless the offense is designated a civil infraction, which caps the fine at five hundred dollars ($500.00) per offense. The Lyon County Sheriff's Office is the enforcing agency on County roads.
