Tamarac, FL Mobility & Curb Rules: Red-Light Cameras (2026)

Chapter 14.5 of the Tamarac Code, entirely rewritten by Ordinance No. 2013-10 on June 26, 2013, is the Tamarac Dangerous Intersection Safety Act. Sec. 14.5-1 states the chapter's intent: to authorize traffic infraction detectors, meaning red-light cameras, to promote compliance with red light signal directives as defined by Florida's red-light camera statute, F.S. § 316.0083 (the 'State Act'), while also making clear that the cameras supplement, and do not replace, an officer's authority to issue a citation for a red-light violation using other enforcement techniques.

Sec. 14.5-2 fixes the program's start date at July 1, 2010, when the city began enforcing red light signal directives under the State Act, and provides that the chapter cannot supersede, infringe, curtail or impinge upon state law governing red-light violations. Sec. 14.5-3 delegates implementation authority to the city manager or a designee to carry out whatever the State Act requires. Sec. 14.5-4 designates the city's code enforcement special magistrates, appointed by the City Commission, to serve as the local hearing officers required by F.S. § 316.003(91) for notice-of-violation hearings, and directs those hearings to follow the procedures of F.S. § 316.0083; when a challenged violation is upheld at hearing, the City Commission sets administrative hearing costs by resolution that get assessed against the violator in addition to the camera-issued fine.

The chapter itself sets no camera locations, fine amount or appeal deadline; those are fixed by the State Act and the underlying uniform traffic citation the driver receives.
