Tamarac, FL Parking Rules: Driveway Rules (2026)

Land Development Code § 10-4.3(C)(2)(a) sets the general surfacing standard for every off-street parking and loading area in the City of Tamarac, and driveways fall under this same requirement since they connect a home or business to its required parking. Except where the more limited pervious-surfacing option in subsection (b) applies, every parking surface, including a residential driveway, must be asphalt, concrete, brick, stone, pavers or an equivalent hard, dustless and bonded material; the Code specifically encourages using recycled content such as glass, rubber, used asphalt, brick, block or concrete within that hard-surface requirement.

Whatever material is chosen, it has to be kept in a smooth, well-graded, well-drained, clean, orderly and dust-free condition, so a driveway that has degraded into ruts, mud or loose dirt no longer meets the standard even if it started out paved. A property owner who wants a pervious or semipervious surface instead, such as pervious concrete, open-joint pavers or a reinforced grass and gravel grid, may use one only if it is part of an ongoing maintenance program covering sweeping and periodic vacuuming, and any pervious material used for a driveway or aisle must be certified able to handle the expected traffic loading.

Beyond surfacing, the same article also requires that parking areas be arranged so a vehicle can be parked or unparked without moving another vehicle and so no parking or maneuvering spills onto the public street or sidewalk.
