Tamarac, FL Parking Rules: Overnight Parking (2026)

Section 9-130 of the City of Tamarac Code sets residential property maintenance standards, and subsection (f)(1) governs what can sit in a driveway, carport or yard overnight. Overnight is defined in Sec. 9-130(c) as the period between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Only a private use vehicle may be parked or stored overnight where it would be visible from the public right-of-way or an abutting property; the same subsection (c) defines a private use vehicle as one used primarily for the owner's or operator's own transportation, with no monetary compensation derived from its normal operation, limited to passenger vehicles such as automobiles, motorcycles, golf carts and trucks.

Any other vehicle type, including heavy trucks and commercial vehicles as defined by cross-reference to Chapter 14, Section 14-30, cannot be parked or stored overnight in a visible location under this residential-standards section; commercial and heavy vehicles instead fall under the separate parking restrictions in that traffic chapter. Related subsections of Sec. 9-130(f) require that any vehicle use area be built of asphalt, brick pavers, concrete or comparable durable material, kept neat, clean and pothole-free, and that carports and garages be used only to store approved-use vehicles, with garage doors kept closed when not in use.

Enforcement of the residential property maintenance article falls to the code compliance division working with the Broward Sheriff's Office under Sec. 9-130(i), and disputes over an administrative determination go to the special magistrate, with any further appeal from the magistrate's decision going to the circuit court under Sec. 9-130(h)(2).
