Tamarac, FL Parking Rules: EV Charging (2026)

Land Development Code § 10-4.3(J) requires any mixed-use, non-residential or multi-family development in the City of Tamarac with twenty or more parking spaces to install and provide access to a 240-volt or greater electrical power supply in its off-street parking facilities so electric vehicle spaces can be added. Except in single-family residential districts, wherever off-street parking is required at all, a minimum of two percent of the required spaces, and at least one space regardless of how small that two percent works out to, must be built as electric vehicle parking.

In mixed-use and nonresidential districts with twenty or more required spaces, those electric vehicle spaces are reserved exclusively for electric vehicles, and in mixed-use, nonresidential and multi-family districts the spaces must be equipped with at least a Level 2 charging station; for residential development, charging access is limited to building residents and their invited guests rather than the general public. Every electric vehicle space has to be marked with green paint or curbing and posted with a sign identifying it as an electric vehicle space, following the Federal Highway Administration's Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.

Each charging station itself needs its own sign listing the voltage and amperage, any usage fee, safety information and contact information for the station's owner, plus a retraction device, coiled cord or a fixture to keep cords off the ground, and the station has to be screened from view of any public right-of-way. A redevelopment or expansion project that adds twenty or more required spaces to an existing mixed-use, nonresidential or multi-family site triggers the same standards.
