Lenexa, KS Noise from Specific Sources: Delivery Truck Noise (2026)

Lenexa does not have a stand-alone delivery truck ordinance. The provision that governs is Section 4-1-C-4-E-3-f of the Unified Development Code, which covers the creation of noise in connection with loading or unloading any vehicle, in the opening and destruction of bales, boxes, crates and containers, or in the handling, loading or unloading of trash, recyclable material or solid waste in residential areas. That wording reaches a delivery driver dropping pallets, a crew breaking down crates, and a hauler emptying containers next to homes.

The standard is plainly audible across any property boundary line between 7:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. Audibility alone is prima facie evidence of a violation, and no meter reading is required. From 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., sounds from these activities are not subject to the time, area and dB(A) limits in Section 4-1-C-4-E-2.

The rule applies in a Residential Area, defined in Section 4-1-C-4-E-1-i as property zoned RE, RP-E, R-1, RP-1 through RP-5, AG, or a PUD containing residential uses. Deliveries to commercial or industrial zones are measured under the dB(A) table instead: 65 dB(A) by day and 60 dB(A) at night for commercial areas, 70 and 65 for industrial areas.

Evidence comes from the Community Standards Officer's auditory confirmation and written report, a complainant's statement, or an audio or video recording (Section 4-1-C-4-E-4). The person in control of the property is responsible for abatement (Section 4-1-C-4-E-6).

Solid waste haulers also answer to Chapter 2-11, the Solid Waste Business chapter of the Code, which carries its own collection provisions. The noise rule above is the one that governs sound from loading and unloading.
