Irving does not have a standalone generator noise ordinance. Generator noise falls under Chapter 22's general provisions prohibiting unreasonably loud, disturbing, and unnecessary noise. Portable generators used during power outages for emergency purposes are generally tolerated. However, continuous operation of generators for non-emergency purposes that disturbs neighbors may result in a noise complaint. Construction generators on active job sites must comply with the construction hours restrictions (6 AM-9 PM weekdays, 7 AM-8 PM weekends). Permanent standby generators must comply with the International Building Code and UDC performance standards for setback and noise. Commercial generators are subject to zone-based decibel standards in Table 22-1.
