Amplified music rules in Cape Coral, FL — also called sound permit, PA system, or live music ordinances — set decibel limits, time-of-day restrictions, and when permits are required.
Amplified music, including low-frequency bass, is covered by the Lee County Noise Control Ordinance. It must stay within the Table 1 dBA limits (55 dBA at night in residential areas) and may be cited as a noise disturbance regardless of decibel reading.
The ordinance's definition of 'Noise' expressly 'includes low frequency sounds caused by amplified bass music that can result in vibration of structures or persons.' Amplified music is bound by Table 1: 66 dBA day / 55 dBA night for residential receiving land, measured at the property line and at least 5 dB above ambient. Even below those levels, Sec. Six(B) lets an officer find a prohibited noise disturbance based on volume, vibration, time of day and proximity to sleeping areas. Applies in unincorporated Lee County only.
Second-degree misdemeanor: up to $500 fine or 60 days jail, each occurrence a separate offense; enforced by the Lee County Sheriff's Office.
