Coconut Creek, FL Noise Ordinances: Amplified Music & Outdoor Sound (2026)

Coconut Creek regulates amplified music through the noise article adopted May 26, 2022 (Ord. No. 2022-008), not through an amplifier permit. Section 14-27 makes it unlawful to willfully make, or cause to be made, for a continued duration (fifteen minutes or more) any sound that is so harsh, prolonged, unnatural or unusual in time or place as to cause unreasonable discomfort to nearby residents or businesses, or that exceeds the § 14-30 limits.

Section 14-29 gives the city two ways to prove a violation. First, an employee can decide by ear, weighing up to fourteen factors, among them volume, intensity, proximity to residential sleeping facilities, the nature and zoning of the area, density of inhabitation, time of day or night, duration, whether the noise is recurrent or constant, and whether the source is commercial or noncommercial. Second, in the city's sole discretion, a meter reading is taken at the real property boundary of the receiving land. Slow response on the A-scale is the default, but Section 14-29(b)(3) carves out impulsive noise, including musical instruments, which can be read on the C-scale with the fast response, averaged over three minutes.

Section 14-28 exempts noise permitted as part of a special event permit issued by the city, and the unamplified human voice, except for construction activity. Section 14-30(b) gives noise-generating land uses such as event venues, sports fields and courts extra room, +5 dBA/dBC over ambient or +10 over the district maximum, whichever is greater, but only between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. Sunday through Thursday and the Friday and Saturday night windows ending 9:00 a.m. Any source emitting a pure tone drops five dBA/dBC.
