Barking dog rules in Escambia County, FL — also called nuisance dog, dog noise, or excessive barking ordinances — define when a barking dog becomes a code violation and how complaints are handled.
Unreasonably loud noise from any animal or bird is a per se violation of the County Noise Abatement Ordinance. A person is responsible if they own, control or care for the animal. Pensacola separately bars animals whose frequent or long-continued noise disturbs neighbors.
Escambia County Code Sec. 42-65(h) makes it a violation to allow unreasonably loud noise from an animal or bird for which a person is responsible, meaning anyone who owns, controls or cares for it. Sounds from animals in licensed shelters, kennels, veterinary hospitals and pet shops are exempt. Inside Pensacola, Code Sec. 8-1-13(b)(4) prohibits keeping any animal or bird that by frequent or long-continued noise disturbs the comfort or repose of persons in the vicinity. Barking complaints in the unincorporated county are handled by the Sheriff's Office and Escambia County Animal Services; repeated or nighttime barking is the typical trigger for enforcement.
County: misdemeanor, fine up to $500 or 60 days jail; each day a separate offense (Sec. 42-69). Pensacola: misdemeanor under Sec. 1-1-8.
