Sounding a vehicle horn or signaling device for more than ten consecutive seconds (except as a danger warning) is a per se violation in unincorporated Escambia County. Pensacola also bars unmuffled exhaust and defective vehicles that create loud grinding or rattling noise.
Escambia County Code Sec. 42-65(b) prohibits sounding any horn or signaling device on a vehicle on a right-of-way or public space for more than ten consecutive seconds, unless used as a danger warning. In the City of Pensacola, Sec. 8-1-13(b)(1) restricts unnecessary horn and siren use; Sec. 8-1-13(b)(5) requires engine and motor-vehicle exhaust to pass through an effective muffler; and Sec. 8-1-13(b)(6) bars using a vehicle so out of repair or loaded that it creates loud grating, grinding or rattling noise. Modified exhaust and 'muffler delete' setups therefore risk citation inside the city. Statewide, Florida also regulates loud vehicle sound systems under state motor-vehicle law.
County: misdemeanor, fine up to $500 or 60 days jail (Sec. 42-69). Pensacola: misdemeanor under Sec. 1-1-8.
