Most of unincorporated Escambia County uses a reasonableness standard, not fixed decibels. But Santa Rosa Island (Pensacola Beach) and Perdido Key have objective caps: 70 dbA in the Pensacola Beach core; 65 dbA (day) and 55 dbA (10 p.m.-7 a.m.) elsewhere on the island; 70 dbA average on Perdido Key.
Because of dense mixed use on the barrier islands, Escambia County Code Sec. 42-67 replaces the general unreasonableness test with objective decibel limits there. In the commercial core of Santa Rosa Island (Pensacola Beach) no sound may exceed 70 dbA at the receiving property line. Outside the core, the limit is 65 dbA between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. and 55 dbA between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. On Perdido Key, sound may not exceed an average of 70 dbA measured over four readings across a 15-minute period. Readings are taken with a sound level meter at or within the receiving property boundary. Elsewhere in the county, no numeric county-wide decibel cap applies.
Misdemeanor under Sec. 42-69: fine up to $500 or 60 days jail; each day is a separate offense. Sheriff's Office enforces.
