Construction hours in Cumberland County, NC — sometimes called construction noise rules or contractor work-hour ordinances — set when contractors can run power tools, hammers, and heavy equipment.
Construction, drilling and demolition tools may not run 9 p.m.-6 a.m. on weekdays, or 9 p.m.-9 a.m. on weekends and holidays, within 50 yards of any residential area or noise-sensitive zone in Fayetteville. Emergency and permitted work is exempt.
Fayetteville City Code Sec. 17-11(6) restricts construction, drilling, repair, alteration and demolition tools to daytime hours near homes. Work under a building permit is exempt from the decibel table if standard mufflers and noise-reducing equipment are used (Sec. 17-12(3)). Loading and unloading of building materials is separately restricted 7 p.m.-6 a.m. weekdays (Sec. 17-11(5)), and domestic power tools have their own 10 p.m.-6 a.m. limit (Sec. 17-11(11)). Cumberland County applies a parallel restriction for unincorporated areas.
Violations bring a citation and a civil penalty per the city fee schedule, due within 72 hours, with each day a separate offense (Sec. 17-18).
