Novi, MI Noise Ordinances: Construction Hours (2026)

Section 22-98 bars construction activity, defined broadly to include earth moving, excavation, demolition, and alteration or repair of any building, street, highway or parking area, outside the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday. The section names six exclusive legal holidays where even weekday work is off-limits: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day; Sundays are barred entirely since the permitted hours only run Monday through Saturday. Three exceptions in subsection (b) let work proceed outside those hours: when a homeowner or occupant personally works on their own existing single-family home; when no occupied dwelling sits within 1,000 feet of the activity; or when a government entity or building official determines expedited work is needed, including responses to a declared emergency that threatens public health, safety or welfare.
