Novi, MI Parking Rules: Loading Zones (2026)

Novi splits curb loading regulation into two sections. Under § 33-504, a vehicle may only stop, stand or park in a marked passenger curb loading zone to expeditiously load or unload passengers, and only during the hours posted for that zone; even then, the stop is capped at five minutes. Any other use of the space, including a longer pickup or drop-off, or stopping there outside the effective hours, is barred. Section 33-505 covers freight curb loading zones separately: a vehicle can stop there only for expeditious unloading and delivery, or pickup and loading, of materials, during the hours the zone is in effect, but the code sets no numeric time limit the way it does for passenger zones.

Both sections are hour-restricted rather than around-the-clock: outside the marked effective hours, the loading-zone designation doesn't apply and ordinary street-parking rules under § 33-502 take over instead. Novi doesn't state which office marks or signs these zones in the printed sections, but enforcement against violators falls to the police department citywide as with the rest of Chapter 33's parking provisions. Both sections trace to the same 2009 codification, Ordinance No. 09-81.24, § 1, adopted August 10, 2009, so the passenger and freight rules were adopted together as part of the same overhaul of the city's traffic and parking chapter.
