Novi, MI Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

City of Novi Code § 33-502 lists twenty-three specific places where parking is barred outright, unless the vehicle is complying with a police officer's direction or a traffic-control device. The clearest for everyday drivers: no parking on a sidewalk, in front of a public or private driveway, within an intersection, on a marked crosswalk, or within twenty feet of a crosswalk (fifteen feet of the intersection of property lines where there's no marked crosswalk). The section also bars parking within fifteen feet of a fire hydrant, within thirty feet of a flashing beacon, stop sign or traffic-control signal, within fifty feet of a railroad crossing, and within five hundred feet of an active accident scene where a police officer is present.

Near a fire station, parking is banned within twenty feet of the driveway entrance and, on the opposite side of the street, within seventy-five feet of the entrance if the spot is marked by an official sign. Handicap spaces require a state-issued certificate of identification, special plate, or out-of-state equivalent displayed on the windshield or dashboard; parking there without one falls under the same section. Metered spaces that have expired, spaces restricted by posted signs, and spots that block rural mailbox delivery are likewise off-limits.

The Novi Police Department enforces § 33-502 citywide. A violation is a municipal civil infraction and, under subsection (b), the vehicle can also be impounded, a heavier remedy than the flat fines most other parking sections in Chapter 33 apply.
