Bayonne, NJ Noise Ordinances: Quiet Hours (2026)

City Code § 3-1.10i makes it unlawful for a person to make, continue, or cause to be made any loud, unnecessary, or unusual noise, or any noise that does or is likely to annoy, disturb, injure, or endanger the comfort, repose, health, peace, or safety of others, between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. Noncommercial public speaking and public assembly on any public space or public right-of-way is expressly carved out of that curfew. The same section reaches bar and restaurant patrons: § 3-1.10j separately bars a commercial establishment's owner from letting patrons make that same loud, unnecessary, or unusual noise on a public or private sidewalk outside the business between 10:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m., including patrons smoking or waiting in line, whether or not the sidewalk is used under Chapter 21's sidewalk cafe ordinance.

This general curfew is a nuisance standard, not a decibel meter reading, so it does not require the numeric proof Table I demands; the two provisions are enforced together. A Noise Control Officer or any Police Department member can issue the enforcement document under § 3-1.10's closing paragraph, and the recipient can contest it in Bayonne Municipal Court. A conviction carries the Chapter 1 § 1-5 general penalty of up to $1,250 or 90 days, with each continuing day of the violation a separate offense.
