Quiet hours in Fishers, IN — also called the noise ordinance, nighttime noise rules, or residential quiet time — define the hours during which excessive noise is prohibited.
Fishers Code Chapter 98 (Noise) does not set blanket overnight 'quiet hours' for all noise. Instead it caps electronic sound 'devices' at 90 decibels at all times (measured at least 10 feet from the property line) and restricts power-equipment use to daytime hours. A separate 115-decibel general cap also applies.
Under Fishers Code section 98.02(B), it is unlawful to play, use, or operate any sound-amplifying 'device' (radio, stereo, speakers, etc.) above 90 decibels measured at least 10 feet from the property line where the device sits. The 90-decibel ceiling applies at all days and times; the ordinance carves out slightly later-running windows for Friday and Saturday nights and listed holidays but keeps the same 90-decibel figure. At all other times, sound from a device that is audible at least 40 feet from the property line is also prohibited. Section 98.02(A) sets a separate general ceiling: no person may generate noise exceeding 115 decibels for more than two minutes per hour, measured at least 10 feet from the property line. Fishers does not adopt the common 'lower limit after 10 p.m.' structure; the practical nighttime restriction comes from the power-equipment hours in section 98.02(E) and the device caps. Note: a 2024-2025 amendment was introduced to lower the 90-decibel figure to 80; check the current code for adoption status. Violations are Class C infractions enforced by the Fishers Police Department.
A violation of Chapter 98 is a Class 'C' infraction. Section 98.99 sets escalating fines payable through the Ordinance Violation Bureau: up to $250 first offense, up to $500 second, up to $1,000 third, and up to $2,500 for fourth and subsequent offenses. Citations may be issued by any sworn Fishers Police officer; the Hamilton County or Fishers court has jurisdiction.
