Greece, NY Noise Ordinances: Quiet Hours (2026)

Town Code § 139-6C states that Chapter 139's sound-reproduction and amplified-noise section applies during the hours of 10:00 p.m. through 9:00 a.m. of the following day, 'with the exception of Subsection B(8),' the snowblower/snowplow carve-out. In practice this means the daytime exemptions the code otherwise grants (special events with a Town permit, agricultural equipment, religious and political amplification, athletic events) are suspended overnight, so the underlying excessive-noise prohibitions in §§ 139-4 and 139-6A control between 10:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m. The special-events exemption in § 139-6B(3) makes this overlap explicit: it exempts permitted festivals, carnivals, block parties and fundraisers from the noise rule generally, but says 'this subsection does not apply during the hours of 11:00 p.m. through 9:00 a.m. of the following day.

During these hours this chapter shall apply,' layering an even later 11:00 p.m. cutoff on top of the general 10:00 p.m. curfew for permitted events specifically. Both time provisions were amended by Local Law No. 1-2009. The underlying standard during quiet hours is still audibility-based: noise that carries beyond the property line, or 25 feet in a public place, is prima facie evidence of a violation.
