Greece, NY Parking Rules: Driveway Rules (2026)

Town Code § 211-45F, part of the parking article's general regulations, states plainly that the minimum length of a residential driveway, exclusive of its apron, shall be 22 feet. That standard exists so a parked vehicle does not overhang the sidewalk or street and so a car pulling in has room to clear the public right-of-way, and it is enforced by the Building Inspector as part of zoning compliance for new construction, additions and driveway alterations. Separately, Chapter 163, Article II, Driveway Permits, governs the physical connection to a Town highway rather than the dimensions of the driveway itself.

Section 163-8A bars any driveway onto a Town highway without a permit from the Superintendent of Highways, and § 163-8B extends that permit requirement to reconstruction or resurfacing work on the portion of an existing driveway between the right-of-way boundary and the existing edge of pavement. Section 163-8C requires a written application reviewed and approved against the Highway Superintendent's driveway design criteria. Read together, a Greece homeowner or builder needs to satisfy the 22-foot zoning minimum for the driveway surface on the lot and obtain a separate highway permit for the curb cut and apron work within the road right-of-way; the two requirements are administered by different Town officials under different chapters.

Front-yard parking on an unpaved surface is not separately addressed in these sections; the length standard and the permit-required rule are what the code actually regulates.
